Damaging wind possible with Sunday storms

Authorities say severe weather, including damaging winds, is possible as a cold front ushers thunderstorms into the region Sunday.

John Robinson, senior warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in North Little Rock, said "at least a few severe thunderstorms" are possible as the front arrives.

"Damaging winds appear to be more likely than large hail," Robinson wrote in a statement. "The severe weather threat should begin in northwest Arkansas at mid to late afternoon Sunday and progress toward the southeast after that."

Robinson said a large outbreak of severe weather isn't likely with the best chances coming in the western part of the state Sunday afternoon and night.

Rainfall totals across the state are expected to range from 1 to 3 inches.
