LITTLE ROCK Authorities in Baxter County are working to figure out how a 65-year-old man was fatally shot Monday night.
Sheriff John Montgomery said in a statement that deputies were called to 29 Major St. about 8:40 p.m. to a call from a woman who said a man had been accidentally shot.
On scene, investigators found 65-year-old Dennis Franklin Chapman of Salesville dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
No arrests have been made, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting aren't yet clear.
"Evidence was collected at the scene and persons present during the incident interviewed," Montgomery said. "... The investigation is continuing."
Chapman's body was sent to the State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
