LITTLE ROCK — Two more recounts are under way in a state representative race in northeastern Arkansas in which only 44 votes separate the candidates.
The pair of recounts began at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Jackson and Poinsett counties in the House District 52 race, where Republican John K. Hutchison beat Democrat L.J. Bryant in last week’s general election.
A recount in another county is set later this week.
The Republican majority in the House of Representatives rests on the results. If the results stand, Republicans hold a 51-48-1 majority over Democrats and the House’s lone Green Party member.
The district stretches into four counties: Craighead, Independence, Jackson and Poinsett.
Craighead County held its recount Friday, and the results remained unchanged.
Independence County will hold its recount Thursday.
