Wal-Mart to report earnings Thursday

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is scheduled to release Thursday its third-quarter sales and earnings report for the period that ended Oct. 31.
In the same period a year ago, the world’s largest retailer reported earnings of 97 cents per share. This year, 24 analysts polled by FactSet Research Systems Inc. forecast earnings of $1.07 a share.
Wal-Mart’s U.S. operations have recorded four consecutive quarters of growth in sales at stores open at least a year. Same-store sales, which exclude the impact of stores opened or closed during the period, are a key measure of same-store sales.
The retailer’s earnings report will be posted online at walmartstores.com about 6 a.m.
The quarterly earnings news release and prerecorded phone call will also be available about 6 a.m. A transcript of the call will be available simultaneously .
