The portion of Arkansas covered by severe or extreme drought has reduced to 42.2 percent, down from last week’s 63.8 percent, officials said Thursday.
The weekly U.S. Drought Monitor showed that 18.3 percent of the state now suffers from no drought at all; last week, only 7.7 percent was free of drought.
The report reflects conditions through Tuesday.
A three-month outlook for precipitation predicts that Arkansas will experience wetter-than-average conditions through the winter.
The drought outlook through February, also released Thursday, showed that most of the state should continue to see some improvement, except for the far northwest corner, where persistent drought is expected.
