Happy trails: Discovery Loop, Delta Rivers Nature Center

DISCOVERY LOOP, DELTA RIVERS NATURE CENTER Location:

Center is at 1400 Black Dog Road, on the north side of Pine Bluff in Regional Park. Trailhead sign is to the right of the building entrance.

Length:

Discovery Loop is an easy 0.5-mile paved trail.

For more adventure, add the three other trails (two of them “primitive”) for an additional 1.25 miles.

Main attractions:

Visit the center, then take the walk. This is a magical and educational place kids will love. The trail, with several long walkways over swampy areas, winds through bottomland forest and alongside lush Black Dog Bayou.

Hazards:

Hordes of mosquitoes in the summer.

Cooler weather is better.

Amenities:

Parking at the center, where trails are open every day, dawn to dusk. Center hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday through Saturday;

1-5 p.m. Sunday. Closed Mondays.

Dog, bike, tyke friendly? No dogs; no bikes. Kids will have a ball.
