— Police charged two men with capital murder in the death of a 90-year-old Paragould man killed Monday during a break-in at his home.

Rashon Webb, 18, of Jonesboro and Lavelle Branch-Griffin, 18, for whom police did not list an address, also were each charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, breaking or entering and aggravated assault, said Cpl. Brad Snyder of the Paragould Police Department in a news release.

Police responded to a report of a robbery with shots fired at 6 a.m. Monday on East Court Street in Paragould, Snyder said.

Officers arrived at 806 E. Court St. and found Clinton Mason inside the home. He had been shot, Snyder said.

Medical personnel took Mason to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, where he died, Snyder said.

Authorities were investigating whether the shooting is connected to a Paragould home robbery Sunday night.

A woman told police two men knocked on the door of her North 15th Avenue home at 11:45 p.m. Sunday. They asked to use her telephone and pushed their way into her home, Snyder said in the statement. The woman, who was not injured, said the men stole an undisclosed amount of money and then fled.

Officers with the Arkansas State Police and the Greene County sheriff’s office are assisting the Paragould Police Department in the investigation.
