2 crashes kill 2 in state’s northeast

— Two men died Tuesday in separate crashes in northeast Arkansas, according to preliminary crash reports.

Daniel Wayne Hively, 30, of Harrisburg, and Jordan K. Pankey, 18, of Paragould, died in the wrecks, state police said.

About 11:40 a.m., Hively was northbound on Arkansas 163 near County Road 472 in a 2001 Ford F-150, when he veered off the road, over corrected and the truck overturned, authorities said.

In the second wreck, Pankey was driving north on Arkansas 135 near Oak Grove just before 6 p.m., when he crossed the median into southbound traffic and struck another vehicle head-on, police said. Pankey was taken to The Med in Memphis, where he later died, according to the report.

Joey E. Grooms, 44, of Paragould, the other driver, suffered injuries in the collision, authorities said.
