Thanksgiving Closings

BRYANT/BENTON — The Mabel Boswell Memorial Library in Bryant and the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton will be closed today and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving. The libraries will reopen at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Colt & the Old 45s Concert

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Colt and the Old 45s will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Woodlands Auditorium. The band covers music of the ’60s, as well as tunes from the late ’50s and early ’70s. Toy Drive

BENTON — First Electric Cooperative is participating in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program and will accept donations at the Benton office, 7163 Alcoa Road, through Dec. 7. The community may drop off new, unwrapped toys in the lobby, and First Electric employees will take the toys to the annual Toy Hill on Dec. 8 in Little Rock. VFW Bingo

BENTON — Bingo is held at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday and at 1 p.m. every Saturday at Benton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2256. Members and guests are welcome but must be at least 21 years old. There is no charge for admission, and the kitchen will serve burgers, fries, taco salads and other dishes.

Geocaching

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Geocaching, an outdoor game in which a GPS device is used for a scavenger hunt, is available in Hot Springs Village. Participants will pick up a geocaching flyer and gate pass at the Hot Springs Village Visitor Center; use a handheld GPS device to hunt for seven interesting places in Hot Springs Village; look for a container that may be partially hidden and collect an information card tucked inside; and bring all seven cards to the visitor center to be entered in a monthly drawing for a prize until March 1. Henderson Fall Choreography Showcase

ARKADELPHIA — Henderson State University’s choreography class and the HSU Dance Co. will present their annual Fall Choreography Showcase at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Arkansas Hall Dance Studio. Dance students will present original works in progress, showcasing contemporary styles. The audience is invited to offer feedback and ask questions. The event is free and open to the public. A Festival of Christmas

ARKADELPHIA — Ouachita Baptist University will present its 20th-anniversary production of A Festival of Christmas at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in the Jones Performing Arts Center on OBU’s Arkadelphia campus. Holiday Concert

BRYANT — Sweet Tunes’ Creations will present its first annual holiday concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 1, featuring David Suits and Denaz Suits. They will perform traditional holiday favorites, as well as an original instrumental song, at the Center of Bryant in the Purple Room upstairs. The event is open to the public, and with each ticket purchase, Sweet Tunes’ Creations will donate $1 to the Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that helps provide programs, services and treatment for sick and injured children. Starlight Gala

BRYANT — The Bryant Boys and Girls Club staff and board of directors, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Bryant, will hold the second annual Starlight Gala on Dec. 1 at the Center at Bishop Park. The formal holiday event will begin with hors d’oeuvres and silent-auction viewing at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner. Moodnight and Roses, this year’s theme, will be presented by Landers of Benton and Chick-fil-A on Reynolds Road. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club. Season of Light

ARKADELPHIA — The planetarium at Henderson State University’s Reynolds Science Center will present public showings of the Christmas-themed Season of Light at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13. This show, the first of the public shows presented by the Henderson Planetarium, was first presented in December 1999. The shows, which concentrate on the traditions of Christmas and their origins, are open to the public, and admission is $3 per person, or $1 with a student ID. Extreme darkness is important to the effects of the shows; therefore, late arrivals will not be admitted. For more information, call (870) 230-5006.

Christmas Memories

HOT SPRINGS — The Hot Springs Parks and Recreation Department will offer Christmas Memories, a family-friendly tree-decorating event, from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 7 during Gallery Walk at Kenneth Adair Memorial Park, 358 Central Ave. Attendees are asked to bring an ornament to hang on one of five memorial trees in memory of loved ones who have died, and to honor those who are on active military duty. A Christmas Carol

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The traditional, nonmusical adaptation by Romulus Linney of Charles Dickens’ timeless holiday story A Christmas Carol will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at Woodlands Auditorium. The Hot Springs Village Players production will use special lighting and other effects to reveal the dramatic transformation of “Mr. Humbug” on the night before Christmas. Tickets for reserved seating are $12 for adults and $8 for children 12 and younger. Holiday Band Concert

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Hot Springs Concert band will perform a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at Woodlands Auditorium. The annual event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Hot Springs Village. Tickets are on sale for $10 each from any member of the Concert Band or the Kiwanis Club; at the Woodlands office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays; and online at www.hsvwoodlands.com. Remaining tickets will be available at the box office prior to the show.

Voices of Angels Concert

HOT SPRINGS — The Muses Creative Artistry Project will present the seventh annual Voices of Angels Christmas concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 16 in Garvan Woodland Gardens’ Anthony Chapel in Hot Springs. The concert program features all-female voices, joined by solo pianists and instrumentalists representing more than 400 years of musical style. Area college and high school vocalists will also perform.
