Lavish event scores $470,000 for symphony

— The Capital Hotel glistened Nov. 17 as the elegantly dressed guests gathered in the lobby for 28th annual Opus event.

Opus is considered to be one of the premier events in Little Rock, and this year was no exception. Five hundred guests attended the black-tie-only event, which included a cocktail hour and a lavish dinner. The evening raised more than $470,000 for its beneficiary, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

Shayla and Scott Copas chaired the event. The 2013 chairmen, Susan and Nick Brown, were among the many guests. Craig O’Neill was master of ceremonies.

The lively auction fetched huge prices, including $16,200 for the buyer’s choice of jewelry donated by Sissy Jones of Sissy’s Log Cabin in Pine Bluff and Little Rock.

Other popular auction items were Four Seasons dinner parties hosted by four Little Rock couples, which went for $11,000. In all, the live auction raised $124,000.

Dinner included a crab and celery root salad, filet of beef and a chocolate peanut butter crunch cake. Glazer’s provided the cocktails and wine.

After dinner, the guests danced the night away to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
