Weeks before early voting, ballot issue unsettled

By The Associated Press

This article was published October 1, 2012 at 2:53 p.m.

— A proposed ballot measure about casinos remains tied up in court just weeks before early voting begins in Arkansas.

The state Supreme Court hasn’t said when it will weigh in on two pending lawsuits about a professional poker player’s bid to win exclusive rights to operate casinos in Arkansas.

Early voting begins Oct. 22 ahead of the Nov. 6 election.

A lawyer for professional poker player Nancy Todd told the high court last month that the state was wrong to reject her proposal, which would give her the right to operate casinos in four counties.

The secretary of state’s office said Todd’s proposed measure didn’t inform voters it would repeal a law allowing a Hot Springs horse track and a West Memphis dog track to operate electronic “games of skill.”

KCSAP... Not surprising the media and the ADG has been quiet on many important things going on in the last few days.

KCSAP: No troops in Iraq plus fewer troops in Afghanistan (especially Guard & Reserve) means fewer military voters eligible to vote absentee. Add in conservative leanings among military voters in a state that's still polling solid Romney even as the national race goes Obama's way, and the other reason why military absentee votes are down becomes obvious—apathy, NOT suppression. NOT every election trend is an Obama (or Koch brothers) conspiracy.

This administration doesn't want to suppress people with no ID the right to vote but our people in the military who actually deserve the right are the ones getting suppressed.
