Singing his song

Harry Belafonte airs documentary Sing Your Song at film festival

— Actor, singer and activist Harry Belafonte was the main course - via documentary and in person - on the Sept. 25 closing night of The Reel Civil Rights Film Festival. Presented by the Little Rock Film Festival, the event took place at the Argenta Community Theater in North Little Rock.

The evening began with a welcome by Craig Renaud, executive director of the Little Rock Film Festival; Spirit Trickey, chief of interpretation for the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site; and Robin White, site superintendent. Opening remarks were made by North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays; Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola; Patricia S. Trap, Midwest regional deputy director of the National Park Service; David A. Grove, president and chief executive officer of the Jefferson National Parks Association; and Sanford Tollette, president of Central High Museum Inc.

Featured was a showing of the Harry Belafonte documentary, Sing Your Song. Following was Trickey’s onstage interview of Belafonte, followed by questions from the audience. Concluding the evening were the Soul of Humanity awards, presented to Belafonte and the Little Rock Nine; closing remarks from Little Rock Nine member Minnijean Brown Trickey; and a poem by White.
