High-speed chase suspect tied to carjacking, shootings, robbery

— A suspect in a shooting who was caught after a high-speed chase last week has been tied to a carjacking in a Little Rock, an earlier shooting in Pulaski County, and now an armed robbery in Conway, authorities said Wednesday.

Gabriel Jaquez, 22, of Conway was arrested Thursday after a police chase ended with him crashing into a fence at 10228 U.S. 70.

After being released from a hospital, Jaquez was booked into the Pulaski County jail Tuesday on charges tied to the shooting at 2109 Batesville Pike near Sherwood that prompted the pursuit.

Tony Kiehl, 38, suffered shotgun wounds in his abdomen and arm in that attack.

Pulaski County sheriff's office Lt. Carl Minden said Wednesday that Jaquez subsequently confessed to two additional crimes: an Oct. 3 carjacking in Little Rock and a shooting near Sweet Home a short time later that day.

In the Little Rock carjacking, 50-year-old Chester Finley was approached in a parking lot near MacArthur Park by a man who was armed with a shotgun. The man, who police later identified as Jaquez, demanded Finley's keys and then sped off with his Volkswagen Jetta.

The Sweet Home shooting was reported a short time later. Victim Brian Harden told investigators he was working on his car when a man pointed a shotgun at him and fired, hitting him in the back of his head. Harden suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Conway Police Department spokesman Latresha Woodruff said in a statement Wednesday afternoon that Jaquez was also developed as a suspect in an Oct. 15 armed robbery of a woman and her child at their Conway home.

A Conway police report states that Jaquez stole the woman's vehicle and its contents at gunpoint, though neither she nor the child was injured. Pulaski County deputies found the woman's vehicle the same day at 8 Antler Way Court in Sherwood, near the location of Thursday's shooting and subsequent pursuit.

Jaquez admitted he committed that crime in an interview with Conway police, Woodruff said.

Jaquez faces a number of charges, including two counts of first-degree battery, six counts of aggravated assault and four counts of aggravated robbery, authorities said.

Bail on the Pulaski County charges has been set at $350,000, while no bail has been set on the Little Rock or Conway charges.
