Man arrested for illegal possession of explosive material

— The U.S. Attorney's Office in Arkansas announced the arrest of a Mabelvale man for illegal possession of explosive material.

A release from the department states that Michael S. Parker, 52, was arraigned Thursday on the charge of felon in possession of firearms and explosive material.

Authorities executed a search warrant at an address relating to Parker on Wednesday and found a 12-gauge shotgun, a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and a stick of military-grade dynamite. Officials on the scene also found 14 one-pound, high-explosive slurries, a commercially available weather-resistant emulsion explosive, according to the release.

Parker had prior methamphetamine convictions, the release states.

The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were the lead authorities on the execution of the search warrant.
