DENVER — A federal appeals court is affirming a life sentence for a man convicted of planting a bomb and starting a fire at a mall near Columbine High School, 12 years after the deadly shootings there.
Earl Albert Moore was sentenced last year after pleading guilty to using a destructive device in a crime of violence in 2011. No one was hurt.
Moore argued the longest sentence he should've received was 30 years, partly because he was then 66 and in ill health. A district court noted Moore had nine former felony convictions and said a longer sentence would send a statement of "no more."
A three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that the district court didn't abuse its discretion with the sentence.
