CHAROLETTE DAVIS ASHLEY, 68, of North Little Rock, passedaway on April 26, 2013. She was born to the late O’Dell and Vinita Massey Davis on Dec. 30, 1944 in Marion County. She was a member of the Levy Baptist Church. She served onthe Board of Easter Seals, was involved with The Arkansas Race for The Cure and she sponsored a Benefit Fundraiser for CARTI. Mrs. Ashley retired from Southwestern Bell where she worked in the business office.

She was a doting wife who adored her husband of 37 years. A loving and attentive mother, who was completely devoted to her parents and grandparents, a thoughtful and trustworthy friend, the mother-in-law extraordinaire, and a fun loving grandmother to her precious grandchildren. She was a 17 year Breast Cancer survivor whose philosophy in life was to meet everything head on. She dealt with all the challenges in life with grace, dignity and determination. She was the epitome of a “southern lady” who will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Candace Ashley Baughman and her husband, Irvin Lynn Baughman; two grandchildren, Hunter Davis Baughman, his fiancé, Andrea Renae Martin and Payton Grace Baughman; one aunt, Peggy Massey Morrison; special friends, Marie Collins, Mindy Baird, Carolyn Wright, Melanie Mayachek, Vicki Washington and Robyn Knight; cousins and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Ashley Sr.; grandson, Cole Dorsey Baughman and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Funeral services will be at held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Levy Baptist Church. Burial will be at Rest Hills Memorial Park. GLORIA BLANCHARD, 68, departed this life on Friday April 26, 2013. She leaves to cherish her memory four loving and devoted children. Two sons, Andre Jefferson and Demetris (Cassandra) Blanchard; two daughters, Michelle Ford-Lamar (Lee) and Andrea Blanchard and a special loving and devoted friend, Arthur Gray.

BETTY KIRTLEY WYMA of Little Rock, born in 1925, joinedher Redeemer, Jesus, and loving husband, Walter James Wyma on April 26, 2013.

Daughter of Lee and Mary Kirtley of Malvern; her brothers and sisters were Granville Kirtley,Meade Kirtley, June Kirtley, Mary Lynn Kirtley Knesal, and one brother who died in infancy.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Wyma Withers; one niece, Peggy Kirtley Moore; one nephew, Burl Kirtley; and close friend of the family, Daniel Angelo.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Memorial Park, Hwy 5 in Alexander.

ARKADELPHIA - Laverne Cox Orr, 76, of Arkadelphia passedaway Sunday, April 28, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 14, 1936, in the Hearn Community, the daughter of the late Lawis WardCox and Lois West Cox. Laverne was a member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia, where she was in the Friendship Sunday School class. She attended Henderson State University and graduated with a BSN, RN degree from UAMS with the school’s second class of nursing in June 1958. Laverne worked at Clark County Memorial Hospital, Clark County Nursing Homes and retired from Clark County Health Department after 21 years as a clinic nurse. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles W. Orr, on Dec. 20, 1958.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Charlie” Orr, and one sister, Betty Ruth Cox.

Survivors include a son, Steve Orr and wife Vickie of Malvern; a daughter, Jan Orr Parsons, husband Odas and an acquired special daughter, Brenda Gills, all of Arkadelphia; two precious granddaughters, Reagan and Taylor Parsons; three stepgrandchildren, Heather Parsons and husband Andrew, Mary Lee Brown, Jason Dyer and wife Amanda; and two step-greatgrandchildren, Adyson and Camryn Dyer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.

CONWAY - Mary Louise Montgomery Pratt, 69, of Conway,daughter of the late Freeland Kyle Montgomery and Maudie Odella Johnston Montgomery and the wife of David Pratt, went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2013,in Searcy at White County Acute Care Hospital. She was born July 5, 1943, in Ola, Ark. Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Annette Montgomery and a brother, Ronnie Michael Montgomery.

Mary was David’s soul mate from the moment he laid eyes on her. They married in 1967 and began a marriage that lasted almost 46 years. Mary loved to do needlepoint, and her walls were adorned with each piece she lovingly crafted. Although Mary and David didn’t have children of their own, they helped raise many children. “Aunt Mary” was a favorite place to go, and all knew there would be something delicious to eat and a welcoming hug. Mary was a homemaker and fantastic cook. She was a collector of cookbooks, but she could have easily written her own with some of her delicious recipes. Mary had a love of the Lord and enjoyed many bible studies and her private devotionals. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed traveling and went to Hawaii, England andher favorite trip, to the Holy Land of Israel. Mary enjoyed her many visitors, and all felt special when they left her presence.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, David Pratt; brother Bill Montgomery of Conway; relatives Eddie and Linda Bolin of El Dorado, Chester and Marie Pratt of Athens, Texas, and Thomas and Frances Pratt of El Dorado, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, (501) 327-7727, with Brother David Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Clawson, Greg Clawson, Mike Satterwhite, Clay Stone, Danny Bane, Columbus Tuggle, Ernie Gault and Herb Bizell. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Eddie Bolin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. CONWAY - Thelma Ruth Uekman, 82, of Conway passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013. She was born in Van Buren, Ark., to the late Henry and Chillieloettie McElyea.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman J. Uekman; parents; great-grandson Jacob House; and three brothers, Ray, Henry, and Walter McElyea.

She is survived by two sons, Tommy Uekman (Judith) of Washington State, and Robert Uekman (Paula) of Conway; three daughters Vickie Wood (Phillip) of Jacksonville, Donna Epperson (Blaine) of Conway, and Susan Crow of Mountain Home; two sisters, Rose Conner and Sue Webster of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother Bob McElyea of Cabot; 13 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the brothers and sisterof Herman Uekman for their support during mom’s illness. Also thanks to the Hospice of Conway for their support and care during this time. CROSSETT - Miss Laquinta Mashea Jackson, 25, of Crossett, Ark. died Friday, April 26.

Survivors include her mother & father, her maternal (adoptive) grandparents, eight brothers and six sisters.

FORT SMITH - Marcelle Dozier Nelson, 89, of Fort Smith, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 17, 2013. She was born Aug. 20, 1923, to Lawrence “Scat” and Ruth Bryan Dozier in Gurdon, Ark. Her family later moved to Texarkana, where she graduated with honors from Texarkana High School and completed her professional training in business college.

On Dec. 17, 1941, she married Shelton Ross Nelson, who thenleft to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Marcelle supported the war effort by working at the Proving Ground facility in Hope. When reunited, thecouple moved to Fayetteville, where Ross graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law, then joined the U.S. Army JAG Corps, beginning a challenging career and life of extensive travel around the U.S. and overseas.

In 1972, the couple retired and moved home to Arkansas, settling in the Little Rock area where Marcelle was a member of the United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school, and assisted with a wide variety of other ministry activities through the years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, fishing, dancing, bowling, bridge, travel, and serving as a volunteer leader in a number of different organizations. After she was widowed in 2005, Marcelle moved to Fort Smith to be near family.

Marcelle is survived by three children, their spouses, and five grandchildren. Son, Larry and Jan of Fort Smith; son, Rick Nelson and Mae Chan of in Sunnyvale, Calif., and daughter, Linda Nelson Bridoux and Jean Claude of Bartlesville, Okla. Grandchildren are Dr. David B. Nelson and wife Jessica Konvicka Nelson of Dallas, Texas; David R. Nelson of Colo.; Brigitte Belle Bridoux, currently of R.I.; Jeannette Elise Bridoux, a student at UA Fayetteville; and Charlotte Marcelle Bridoux, a minor.

Marcelle was buried with her husband at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Funeral services were directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

The family requests the dedication of memorial gifts in lieu of flowers, preferably to the Arkansas Division of the American Cancer Society, the Arkansas Retired Military Association or the Arkansas Disabled Veterans Association.

HOPE - Mrs. Dorris Askew Worthey 79, of Hope, Ark. passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 in Hope, Ark. Visitation, Monday, April 29, 2013 between 6-8 p.m. at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.

Services: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church of Hope. Interment in Holly Grove Cemetery.

JEFFERSON - Johnny Ray Carter, 59, of Jefferson, Ark .,went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2013.

He was born and raised in Pine Bluff to Aubrey and Vlasta Rose Payonk Carter on Jan. 9, 1954.

He graduatedfrom Dollarway High School in 1972 and was employed with AT&T and was currently working in Risk Management. He was a highly accomplished individual and just recently received recognition for his 40 years of service.

He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Central Arkansas Chapter-Harley Owners Group, NRA Endowment member and a member of S & H Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Carter; half brother, Aubrey E. Carter; sister, Mary Annette Carter; and grandparents, Joseph G. and Belle Carter.

Survivors include his mother, Rose Carter of Pine Bluff; brother, Bobby Joe Carter of Missouri; sister, Becky Rose Spadoni (Larry) of Pine Bluff; fiancee, Sandy Vera of Jefferson; special aunts, Martha Powers (Louis) of Florida, Lola Russell (C. L.) of Tennessee; special cousins, Teresa Browning (Alton) and David Rand, both of Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Shannon Jennings (Delmar), James Carter (Amanda), Amber Carter, all of Missouri, Kenneth Carter of Illinois, Doug Carter of Pine Bluff; great-nephews, Nathan and Dylan Jennings, Zander Carter; great-niece Ashton Carter; stepson, James Metcalf of North Little Rock, along with many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 30, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at Ralph Robinson & Son in Pine Bluff.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 2 p.m. at First Assembly of God in Pine Bluff with Reverend Gary Bell officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Pine Bluff.

PARAGOULD - Maggie Lorene Monk Gatlin, 87, died Friday, April 26, 2013, in Batesville. She was born June 3, 1925, in Slim, Okla.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Gatlin (Jerry) Post of Batesville, Ark.; and a son, Jackie Lee (Evelyn) Gatlin of Rockledge, Fla.; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Jason Treadaway officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

PIGGOTT - Julia Isabel Belk Cochran was born on Nov. 17, 1906, and died on April 27, 2013. She was married to Lloyd Lee Cochran in August of 1928 and to this union two children were born, Winfred Cochran (June) and Alice Cochran Gregory (Charles).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her son, Winfield; and her son-in-law, Charles.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice, and three grandchildren: Sarah Davis (Billy), David Gregory (Kelly), and Joe Gregory (Gena). She is also survived by seven greatgrandchildren; three greatgreat-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, June Cochran.

She was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church of Piggott, Arkansas. Isabel was a school teacher, librarian, and an avid reader. She received a degree from Arkansas State University and at the time of her death was the oldest living graduate from the University. She loved to read, work with her husband in their shop, and in the yard with her flowers.

Every morning she would wake up saying, “This is the day the Lord hath made - let us rejoice and be glad in it.” She loved to watch her birds as they ate on her patio.

She was cared for by loyal caregivers: Debbie Mallard, Janice Lamp, Arvella Gordon, Shannon Richards, and Judy, Anna, and Audrey Nettles. They gave her loving care by reading to her, listening to her quote poetry, and watching her movies and the St. Louis Cardinals on TV.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Piggott, Ark., with Rev. Andy Newbill officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Ark.

Pallbearers are David Gregory, Joe Gregory, Billy Davis, Brian Gregory, Josh Gregory, and Spencer Gregory with Noah Gregory serving as honorary pallbearer.

Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church until service time.

WARD - Tesa Mae Raines, 19, of Ward passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013. She was born April 22, 1994, in Little Rock. She was a resident of Arkansas Pediatric Facility.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Swany Ray and Russell Ray, of Ward; brother, Nathaniel Ray, of Ward; and her grandfathers, Harvey Brown, of Sherwood, and Robert Ray, of Ward.

A graveside service will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday at Republican Cemetery in Greenbrier.
