Box set recalls Elvis Presley's sessions at Stax

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A three-CD box set slated for release this week chronicles two recording sessions by Elvis Presley at the renowned Stax Records in Memphis in 1973.

The sessions in July and December of the year produced country, R&B and pop songs that were released in three separate albums. Several tunes made the Hot 100 and country charts, including Presley's performances of Chuck Berry's "Promised Land" and Tony Joe White's "I've Got a Thing About You Baby."

Forty years after the Stax sessions, RCA Legacy is releasing "Elvis at Stax: Deluxe Edition" on Aug. 6.

It's the first time Presley's songs recorded at Stax are together in the same release, which also includes outtakes and rare photos.

The release of set comes days before the start of Elvis Week on Aug. 10.
