An Ouachita River Correctional Unit inmate was found dead Thursday evening with an "apparent self-inflicted" cut on his right wrist, the Arkansas Department of Correction said.

Steve Oldham, 45, who was serving a 10-year sentence for a robbery in White County, was found at 8:26 p.m. in the prison's intake area, which is where inmates are processed, authorities said.

Oldham died from “an apparent self-inflicted wound,” Department of Correction spokesman Shea Wilson said in a statement. The Arkansas State Police and local coroner responded to the death, authorities said.

Wilson said Oldham had the razor blade because he had been given it to shave.

Oldham had been transferred to the Malvern lockup from Cleburne County after a parole violation, Wilson said. No details were immediately available on his parole violation.

Maybe it if it were ur son or brother or father for that matter u wouldn't be so ruthless. Karma comes to people like u. People like u are y this world is in the mess it is in. Think before u speak especially put it on paper. It may be hurting more than u know. And u may be in a situation were u have taken all the hurt u can take an I hope no one has any mercy for u. But for ur family's sake I hope some dummy doesn't post stupid crap on line to cause the more pain. A lot of people in the bible we're thrown into prison for things that didn't deserve that punishment exactly. And there is a lot today also. If he hard been there before u don't know what he was going to go through. Must have been bad enough to choose hell over going there. Where were the kind hearted people of this world who should have given this man a kind word or enough courage to face what he was going through. May God have mercy on his soul. Society has failed him greatly. May God comfort his family. And teach those who failed him to listen and those who tried to help him to continue there good work. People who are so cold will get their just reward. U may be in a situation soon and I hope u remember ur cold words. God bless the ones who allow him to use them.

It truly is a sad day when one takes their own life for such, however one has to ask of what part of society failed Steve Oldham and/or what part did Steven fail society. Nor do we know the environments Mr. Oldham chose in his life. May God bless Steven's soul, and grant him eternal life.

Inquire.... I have never understood why anyone takes their own life. I could partially understand IF they were terminally ill but still that interferes with God's time. I've always been of the mindset that cowards take their own life, leaving the family wondering why. THAT is the tragedy.
