Inmate found dead at Malvern prison

An Ouachita River Correctional Unit inmate was found dead Thursday evening with an "apparent self-inflicted" cut on his right wrist, the Arkansas Department of Correction said.

Steve Oldham, 45, who was serving a 10-year sentence for a robbery in White County, was found at 8:26 p.m. in the prison's intake area, which is where inmates are processed, authorities said.

Oldham died from “an apparent self-inflicted wound,” Department of Correction spokesman Shea Wilson said in a statement. The Arkansas State Police and local coroner responded to the death, authorities said.

Wilson said Oldham had the razor blade because he had been given it to shave.

Oldham had been transferred to the Malvern lockup from Cleburne County after a parole violation, Wilson said. No details were immediately available on his parole violation.
