Battle for the bridge: On Aug. 27, 1863, Union and Confederate troops clashed at Bayou Meto and Reed’s Bridge near Jacksonville. The 150th anniversary of that battle will be remembered with a re-enactment celebration Sept. 6-8 at Reed’s Bridge Battlefield, on Arkansas 161 near Jacksonville. Battle of the bridge: The state’s biggest cycling tour rolls through downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock as serious cyclists gather for the Big Dam Bridge 100 on Sept. 28. The rides, which range from 15 to 100 miles, start at LaHarpe Boulevard and Chester Street at 7 and 7:30 a.m. Registration is $30-$45 through Sept. 14, $35-$49.49 Sept. 15-25, $39-$54 on site. Meanwhile, the North Little Rock Family Fun Fest will entertain families at Dickey-Stephens Park, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is $5, free for children 12 and under.
