Gurdon man killed after vehicle veers into creek

A Gurdon man died Sunday after the vehicle he was driving veered off U.S. 67 in Clark County and ended up in a creek, authorities said.

It happened about 6:25 a.m. as Jimmy L. Wells, 50, was driving a 1996 Geo Tracker north on the highway, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police said the Tracker crossed the southbound lane and left the west shoulder before coming to a rest in a creek.

Wells died at the scene.

It wasn't clear what caused the vehicle to leave the highway. Conditions were described as clear and dry.

The death was the 440th fatality in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
