U.S. 60 project in Oklahoma approved

TULSA — The Oklahoma Transportation Commission has approved several road constructions contracts, including a nearly $38 million plan to improve parts of U.S. 60 near Pawhuska.

During its monthly meeting Monday, the commission awarded a contract to Sherwood Construction Co. Inc. to improve a nearly six-mile stretch of U.S. 60. The Tulsa World reported that the project is expected to take about 590 days to complete.

But, Oklahoma Department of Transportation Executive Director Mike Patterson said, future work and even existing contracts may be jeopardized because of an uncertainty in federal funding.

Patterson said the agency will do everything in its power to continue existing projects. He said agency staff will spend the next several weeks studying how to handle projects as the state enters 2014.
