This article was published December 11, 2013 at 9:39 a.m.

Authorities are looking for an assailant who robbed an 18-year-old man at gunpoint as the victim pumped gas at a Little Rock station.

It happened shortly after 11 p.m. Monday at the Valero at 8921 Fourche Dam Pike, police said.

The victim told investigators the robber first asked whether he smoked marijuana, next asked for money and then pulled out a gun and demanded the victim's wallet as he gave the man a dollar.

According to a Little Rock Police Department report, the robber then got in a car described as a dark red or maroon older-model sedan and drove north from the area with the stolen wallet.

The robber is described as a 25- to 35-year-old black man who stood about 5-foot-9 and weighed about 140 pounds. He was wearing a black, gray and red knit cap, and bluejeans.

Again......when are the legally armed citizens of Little Rock going to start taking a bite outta crime? The police can't solve your problems.

First, buying gas at night anywhere in LR/NLR is risky unless you're a CCL holder and have a good assessment of your surroundings when you enter a place of business at night.

Arkansas does NOT have a castle doctrine law, also known as “stand your ground” or a “make my day” law. So technically we should be giving it up or trying to escape with shooting being a last choice if cornered or trapped. We may be legally armed but it gets kind gray when considering can we legally shoot. In your house, probably OK, across a gas station parking lot, you're taking a chance on being arrested yourself.

If a person points a gun at you I believe you have the right to shoot them. They are commiting a felony and I would consider my life in danger.

In a gunfight, the most important rule is..............HAVE A GUN!!
Shooting Advice from various Concealed Carry Instructors.
If you own a gun, you will appreciate these rules.
If not, you should get one and learn how to use it and learn the rules :

A: Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians.

B: It’s always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

C: Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not necessarily you.

D: Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arm’s length.

E: Never say "I've got a gun." If you absolutely need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off.

F: The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes, the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

G: The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win - There is no such thing as a fair fight. Always win - cheat if necessary.

H: Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets . . . You may get killed with your own gun, but he or she will have to beat
you to death with it, 'cause it will be empty.

I: If you're in a gun fight:

If you're not shooting, you should be loading.

If you're not loading, you should be moving.

If you're not moving, you're dead.

J: In a life and death situation, do something . . . It may be wrong, but do something!

K: If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

L: You can say 'stop' or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much a universal language.

M:You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

If you believe in the 2nd Amendment, forward to others you know who also believe .

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading...

"Thomas Jefferson ( yep, he did say it...look it up )

This young fellow was 18, so he is too young to get a CHCL, and actually too young to purchase or carry a handgun on his own.

ATMs, gas stations, and in this season, shopping center parking lots are the salt licks around which these predators seek their prey. You need to be aware of your surroundings when you pull in there, as well as any strangers (which could be anybody) approaching you. Don't let anyone you don't know or don't trust inside your comfort zone. The mistake that this young fellow actually made was engaging the stranger, and letting him get in close enough to surprise him at gunpoint. Heartless as it might seem, the appropriate response is "Sorry sir... I can't help you..." and keep a wary eye on him. If he continues to edge in, get your commanding voice on, "STOP! LEAVE ME ALONE" as loudly as you can, and personally at that point I would be on red alert and ready to react. Keep some barrier -- the car door, a gas pump, or something, between you and the intruder. Get your business done, and get out of there as quickly and safely as you can.

About this time last year I found myself out in dark places a lot more than I was used to, and invested in a CHCL and some self-defense training to go with it. Except when I'm in a "prohibited place," I almost always have a sidearm of some sort on me or in reach. When I'm out in the open in these sorts of places, I'm on alert, and looking out for potential dangers. I'm definitely not looking for trouble, but am prepared as much as I can if something should come up. THis time of year, there are predators out there. BE careful around the water holes and salt licks...
