FORT SMITH — A nurse has testified that burns covered 42.5 percent of the body of a woman who was set on fire last year and later died.
The Southwest Times Record reports that 31-year-old Donnie Lee Harris of Talihina, Okla., is charged with first-degree felony murder in the March 9, 2012, death of 25-year-old Kristi Ferguson, his on-and-off girlfriend.
Prosecutors allege he intentionally doused Ferguson with gasoline about a month before her death, then set her afire. The resultant blaze also destroyed Harris' family home.
Rhonda Jo Kimberly Norman, a member of the burn unit team at Integris Baptist Medical Center of Oklahoma City, testified Friday that Ferguson required a ventilator to breathe. By March 8, she was listed as do not resuscitate and placed on comfort care only.
