Severe weather possible in South this weekend

NORMAN, Okla. — The Storm Prediction Center says severe storms are possible this weekend in parts of the Southern Plains and Southeast.

The center, based in Norman, Okla., said damaging winds and some tornadoes are possible Saturday in an area stretching from Austin, Texas, to Memphis. The area at risk also includes southern Illinois, southeast Missouri and western Kentucky, along with much of Arkansas, northern Louisiana and southeast Oklahoma.

Forecasters say strong to severe thunderstorms are likely Saturday with some areas of heavy rain, particularly in the northern half of the area at risk.

On Sunday, strong winds and isolated tornadoes are possible in parts of eastern Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
