MovieStyle: The Oscar aspirants are coming

OK, we’re starting to spot some whales in local waters, the big heavy Oscar aspirants are beginning to school and beach themselves in our cineplexes.

This week we’ve got David O. Russell’s latest ensemble play, American Hustle, a whimsical take on the late disco era and the Abscam scandal that embarrassed several members of Congress; Alexander Payne’s wistful, bittersweet Great Plains odyssey Nebraska; and the Walt Disney Co.s version of its own history with Mary Poppins and her irascible creator, Saving Mr. Banks.

If that’s not enough, Alex Gibney’s documentary The Armstrong Lie further complicates the weekend peloton.

We sort it all out in this week’s MovieStyle.

And there are reviews of Anchorman 2, Native Arkansan Derrick Sims’ Come Morning and an interview with Nebraska director Payne on our sister site, blooddirtangels.com.
