A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

Eggnog experiments entered in ninth Ever Nog-Off event

Bootleg Eggnog made by David Burnette of South on Main was the winner at the ninth Ever Nog-Off on Dec.

13 at the Historic Arkansas Museum.

Burnette, who has won twice in the past for his recipe, garnered the judges’ top award and the people’s choice award.

Judges were Darla Huie, Amanda Hoelzeman and P. Allen Smith. What does garden and lifestyle expert Smith look for in a good eggnog? Texture - not too thick, but creamy - and the right amount of nutmeg.

Burnette and his teammate, Amy Bell, were competing against the likes of Mayor Mark Stodola’s Hong Kong Holiday Hooch, frozen Le Nog by LaurieHarrison of Le Pops and Capital Eggnog from the Capital Hotel.

New this year was the Not Your Great, Great, Great Grandfather’s Eggnog award, given to the crowd’s favorite unconventional eggnog, which was Coffee Creme Brulee Eggnog made by Copper Grill.

The evening wasn’t all about eggnog, however.

Local authors Jane Hankins and Kat Robinson signed copies of their latest books and two exhibits opened: “Dream and Imagery Entailed: Kerrick Hartmanand LaToya Hobbs,” which is up through Feb. 9; and “A Sure Defense: The Bowie Knife in America” which is on display through June 22.
