Passport event funds muscular dystrophy aid

Miss Arkansas Amy Crain and other local beauty queens greeted guests Dec. 13 at Passport to a Cure - Road Trip Arkansas. The Arkansas-theme event held at the Little Rock Marriott was a fundraiser for the Arkansas Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The evening began with a reception where guests enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres and could bid on silent auction items featuring some from the Natural State. A dinner of Southern staples such as catfish and shrimp and grits included entertainment by Arkansas Trainwreck, a local bluegrass band.

A live auction with Jay Atkins serving as auctioneer followed the dinner.

The Arkansas Muscular Dystrophy Association provides services for nearly 800 people in Arkansas living with one of 43 muscular or neuromuscular diseases.

Money raised will support free local clinics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, medical equipment repairs and summer camp for children with muscular dystrophy, said Faith Gonzales, the association’s director of business development.
