Ice on bridges cause wrecks, traffic delays

By ArkansasOnline

This article was published December 31, 2013 at 7:58 a.m.

Multiple traffic accidents were reported Tuesday morning because of ice settling on bridges and overpasses.

The bridges across the Arkansas River were all slick because of below-freezing temperatures, and accidents were mounting at highway interchanges.

In Mississippi County, Interstate 55 northbound was closed between mile markers 64 and 65 because of an accident.

It was no surprise that it was going to be cold and clear last night making conditions right for frost on bridges and over-passes. In Missouri, when these conditions are forecast, elevated highway surfaces are pre-treated with a liquid brine solution... no issues.
