Two bodies found in early morning Miller County house fire

DODDRIDGE - Two people died in a Miller County house fire on the Arkansas-Louisiana border Monday morning, authorities said.

Members of the Miller County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire on U.S. 71 about 1:30 a.m. Monday, said Brandon Florence of Caddo Fire Department’s District 8 in Vivian, La., about 25 miles from the state line. The Caddo Fire Department assisted in battling the fire.

Florence did not know the names of the two who died in the fire. Miller County Coroner Eddie Hawkins did not return a telephone message Monday evening.

Florence said a truck driver saw the fire while passing by on U.S. 71 and dialed 911 to report the blaze. The call went to the Caddo District 8 Fire Department first.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.

Authorities took the bodies of the two victims to the state Crime Laboratory, he said.
