Arkansas black caucus discusses voter ID proposals

By The Associated Press

This article was published February 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.

— Members of the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus say they're concerned that proposals requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls may disenfranchise some minority voters.

At their meeting on Monday, lawmakers in the caucus asked pointed questions of Republican Sen. Bryan King, who is pushing for tighter rules for voter identification at the polls. King says his bill and proposed constitutional amendment are needed to combat voter fraud and ensure the integrity of the voting system.

Arkansas ACLU Executive Director Rita Sklar countered that there is no evidence of problems with voter impersonation in Arkansas and said the voter ID law would make the state vulnerable to legal challenges.

The leader of the black caucus said the group had not yet taken an official position on the proposed measures.

The issue will be regarding illegals until Obama gives them Amnesty like Reagan, then it will not make any difference.

Picture ID to have a bank account, board a plane, drive a car, cash a check, get a job, so let us not pretend that this will disenfranchise anyone. Does anyone believe that some dinosaur, who actually exists that does not have a picture ID, would not get a ride to get a picture ID with a mere phone call to either the Democrat or Republican Party?
So why fight something so widely used and necessary to validate identification? Perhaps the opposition is to protect the illegal voters, who could swing a close election like the last presidential election in 1012.

If photo ID's are not already in your possession they will need to be. In the near future you will have to have your SSI check direct deposited in a bank account. Guess what you have to have in order to open a bank account? Thats right, a photo ID. You might as well get one now, and we need photo ID for the most important thing that you can do as an adult, vote. Rita Sklar your are right, there is not a voter fraud problem yet, and this will keep there from being one. i am with capitalist12, you need one for nearly every activity now a days, so it isn't stopping anyone from doing anything. You have to have a photo ID to cash your check at the grocery store. You have to have a photo ID, for gods sake, to rent a movie. Use a debit card? You will need photo ID to use that. Come on people when will it end, this assault on our intelligence that this will keep the poor from voting?
