Halter calls on state lawmakers to advance health

By ANDREW DeMILLO The Associated Press

This article was published February 4, 2013 at 1:17 p.m.

— Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Bill Halter says Arkansas lawmakers have a chance to advance health care in the state as they weigh whether to expand Medicaid’s eligibility under the federal health law.

Halter said Monday that he would avoid talking about specific negotiations between Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe and Republicans on the proposed Medicaid expansion.

But, Halter said, he believes turning down expanded coverage paid for by the federal government doesn’t make sense.

Halter said he planned to run on a set of proposals that would improve education and job prospects and help advance middle-class families. Halter is a former lieutenant governor who announced last month that he's running for governor.

Halter said he’s encouraged by the support he’s received so far in his bid.

I like Halter but expanding Medicad wihtout a full analysis is not right. This is a big committment for the future for the citizens of Arkansas of future revenue without any idea of the total maybe. It could be a Trojan horse type of deal for the natives, who usually losers in these typ of situations. There are many issues to be examined and one of them is What about the illegals? Who pays and whare does it stop?

The third one is the worst comment. Nothing to do with the story. Must be on drugs or drunk.

He is some wannabe that wants to be governor so he can ruin all the good things Beebe did.
