New York cannibalism trial jury pool sees kinky images

— Some prospective jurors in the conspiracy trial of a New York police officer accused of plotting to kill and eat women say they were hurt emotionally by seeing a sampling of evidence to be offered.

The prospective jurors were asked 10 written questions and were shown two pictures and a cartoon depicting violence against women.

About a third of 90 potential jurors who filled out questionnaires Friday in the trial of Officer Gilberto Valle say they were too disgusted by what they heard to be fair. They were dismissed.

One person wrote of being physically ill. One woman wrote it made her skin crawl.

Sixty-one jurors will be brought back Monday to be questioned orally.

Defense lawyers say Valle (VAL’-ee) had no criminal intent and his Internet chats reflected only sexual fantasies.
