Businesswoman’s legacy topic of LR speech

LITTLE ROCK — Authors of a book about a late leading figure in the black community are expected to talk about her accomplishments during an event in central Arkansas.
Regina Norwood and Nancy Lott are set to speak about Josephine Pankey on Saturday at the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.
The historic site says Pankey and her husband bought 80 acres of land in 1907 in what was then a rural area west of Little Rock.
That land was unoccupied until racial violence spurred a movement of blacks away from downtown Little Rock. The Pankeys moved to their land and sold small adjacent lots to other African-American families.
Saturday’s event begins at 1 p.m. at the historic site’s visitor center. It’s free and open to the public.
