Coleman files papers to explore gubernatorial bid

— Republican businessman Curtis Coleman has formed an exploratory committee for a potential run for Arkansas governor in 2014.

Coleman on Wednesday filed papers to register his exploratory committee with the secretary of state’s office. Coleman said the committee will allow him to measure how much support he may have for the state’s top office.

Coleman said he doesn’t have a timeline for deciding whether to join the governor’s race.

Democratic Attorney General Dustin McDaniel is the only announced candidate for the 2014 race.

Coleman said he hopes to raise between $300,000 and $400,000 in the first three months of the year.

Coleman is a co-founder of Safe Foods Corp. in North Little Rock and ran an unsuccessful campaign for the GOP nomination for Senate in 2010.
