$140,000 reported stolen from Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame

— Police are investigating a report that a former employee of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame bilked the agency of roughly $140,000.

According to a North Little Rock Police Department report, investigators were called last month after the president of the Hall of Fame discovered a former employee had been making personal purchases on company credit cards and then using the company checking account to pay them off.

The police report identifies the suspect as 46-year-old Jennifer A. Smith of Little Rock.

"It was discovered on Nov. 20th of this year and when this was going to be brought up in a meeting to Ms. Smith later that day, she did not show for that meeting and has not been to work since then," police wrote in the report.

Smith has not been arrested or charged. A message left for a number listed on the report was not immediately returned.

"It's still under investigation," North Little Rock Sgt. Brian Dedrick said. "We're not that far into it yet [for an arrest]."

According to the report, an independent auditing firm hired by the Hall determined the total theft was about $140,000 over six years.
