— A Little Rock man was shot twice and robbed of his car Sunday during an incident in the 3900 block of Springer Boulevard, authorities said.

Police say Stanley McClain, 38, was shot in the stomach and right arm by two men who then took his 1999 BMW 328. It happened shortly before 5 p.m.

McClain was taken to UAMS Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Monday, police said.

Neither of the suspects tied to the shooting were found, but authorities did arrest one man a short time later after finding him in possession of one of McClain's credit cards.

According to a police report, investigators were dispatched about 7:30 p.m. to 22nd and Valmar streets after a vehicle matching McClain's was spotted in the area.

Police later found 22-year-old Andre Wright walking near Charles Bussey Avenue and Valmar Street. A search of his person revealed the credit card, the report said, and he was arrested on a charge of theft by receiving.

The stolen BMW was found empty but running at 19th and Martin streets.

I don't think this guy is a member of the NRA or has followed all the gun laws in effect. Lets's outlaw BMW's, Cadillacs, and Mercedes. That will stop all the crime for sure.

Well, we DO now know banning hoodies won't do it, even if THIS perp wore one. Why, the hit-and-run driver in Hillcrest was -- wait for it -- WHITE! That would certainly shock ADG commenters who think ALL crime in our fair city is committed by black men in hoodies...

Wowy,

Some of the "white crimes" don't even make the paper. Real estate fraud, embezzlement of funds, and securities fraud etc. rarely make the paper. If the criminals are well connected, they don't even get prosecuted.

Has there been an arrest in the murder of the poor guy where Dustin McDaniel's girlfriend and her brother were found near the body? No. When is the ADG going to do a nice story on the status of this investigation? Inquiring minds want to know.

Crime is still out of control in LR and NLR, race has nothing to do with it. The police know the profiles but I guess they are afraid of using it for fear of the NRA, ACLU and NCAAP and other anti-social/common sense groups.

The problem is that police and prisons are expensive. It actually would be cheaper for the county and the cities to invest in better recreation, after school, and summer programs for the youth. When social services allows children to live with drug addicts and in squalor, the kids for sure will end up toting guns and robbing 711. Prosecute more parents for child neglect, and they would be less eager to have the kids so they can keep the checks coming. If the kids have good youth programs and schools to attend, they are more likely to keep out of trouble.

Hey Populist - Only a racist would view crime in terms of "white" or "black". Non-violent crimes seldom make the news although I've seen many articles on white collar crime in the business section. Does that help an "inquiring mind"? And stop attempting to divert attention to the problem of violent crime in America -a problem enhanced and facilitated by failed liberal social policies. A statistician would say these perps were likely male, 16 - 29 years old, high school dropouts, and born to an unwed mother. This particular demographic accounts for less than 1% of America's population but some 50% of violent crime convictions (data from 2010). Before we can fix the problem, we must first recognize where and why it exists. Your vote for BH Obama worsened the problem. You still bragging about that vote?

Packman,

The Obamas have been pretty good role models for our youth. I wish that he would help cut spending a bit, but, otherwise, I agree with most of what he does. Romney's plan to increase military spending was nothing more than a ploy to win votes in Florida and Virginia. Let's stop talking about Romney; he is through.

Populist says... January 7, 2013 at 4:26 p.m.

Packman,

While welfare has had unintended detrimental consequences, you can hardly blame all problems in the black community on the liberals. The blacks weren't doing so well in the days of slavery, sharecropping, and Jim Crow either. I think some of the crime is misplaced anger at discrimination. When kids live in functional homes, attend good schools, have recreational opportunities, and job prospects, the crime rates will go down. Based on many of the comments posted here, it seems that Little Rock has an enduring problem with race relations. Poor race relations is not good for civic harmony. Nevertheless, the black community must take greater efforts to lift themselves out of poverty. Thankfully, the Obamas work hard on these issues.

Lazybar,

The president works hard and deserves to take vacations. However, I will admit that I wish the presidents would spend less on the trappings of the office. Unfortunately, I also spend too much on travel and too little on charity. If it were up to me, the situation would be reversed, but I am married and have to compromise.

I also wish that Michelle were more like Eleanor Roosevelt than Jackie O. or Nancy Reagan. Nevertheless, in these days of broken marriages, no marriage, and infidelity, the Obamas are good role models with respect to the virtues of hard work and family values. If all Americans stayed married and raised decent and hardworking children, our problems would be solved.

Hey Populist - The double standard in your comments is breathtaking and reasonable people will not allow you to have it both ways. BH and his liberal social policies that feature more and more and more people addicted to a government check via unwed motherhood is THE single biggest plague on American society. It is the height of hypocrisy to praise BH as a role model while he extends these desctructive policies to the farthest reaches of this once proud nation. No, Populist, I will not allow you to have it both ways. And when did I say anything about Romney on this thread? You must have me confused with someone else. And when did I ever blame anything on the "black community"? What I blame are hypocritical and shameless liberal politicians who use the culture of dependence for political gain. As to violent crime, you should not be surprised to know that once you control for marital status of parents and household income, there is statistically insignificant difference between blacks and whites. It ain't about race - it's about culture.

Populist says... January 7, 2013 at 7:13 p.m.

Yes. Race really does not matter. It really is about culture and upbringing. Unfortunately, Arkansas is plagued with too many people who have too little respect for education and family stability. As liberal as you think I am, I think that I would prefer Asa to McDaniel on the family issues alone. Respect for women is very important to civilization.

On the issue of Michelle's clothes etc., I think that she is a lovely First Lady. I just think that American presidents should live simply. I have a few Quakers in my background. Yet, I admit to being a hypocrite and to living better than I need.

The trouble with griping about presidential vacations is that so many people only care when it is a president they don't like. The talk about Obama's vacations has been pretty catty. How does he compare to other modern presidents?
Obama, 83 days so far, at which rate it will be 168 for two terms, about three weeks a year.
George W. Bush, 297.
Clinton, 174.
Reagan, 349. That's right, just over twice as many days as Obama.
If we want to try to legally mandate a simpler, cheaper lifestyle for presidents, it needs to apply to all of them.
The thing that bothers me more is the constant redecorating of the White House. When Mrs. Kennedy restored it, it was badly needed. It had been run down for many years. Mrs. Roosevelt was not a homemaker and let things slide and deteriorate. Different administrations had allowed historically significant furnishings to be banished to the basement or sold. Mrs. Kennedy secured donations of both money and original furnishings and did a valuable restoration. President Truman had necessary physical restoration done. But once that was accomplished, I don't see why, when a new family comes in, anything more is needed than repainting and having the rugs and drapes cleaned, unless something wears out and NEEDS to be replaced. The continual total redecoration of things every four or eight years seems excessive to me. These are temporary quarters for the first families and as long as they are clean and in good repair, I think they should accept them as they are.

Agreed. At least Obama has scaled down the inauguration activities this year. The day is now more about volunteerism than fancy parties. After freezing my toes off the last inauguration to stand in an area where his head was just the size of a pinpoint, I expect to stay home warm and dry this year. However, I will attend the Arkansas Society Ball where I can witness the lobbyists sucking up to our politicians. I hope Clinton will be there. You can depend on him for a good speech.

Hey Populist - "Respect for women is very important to civilization." How in the hello can you make a statement like this, and then in the next breath issue praise for Bill Clinton? Throughout his public life Bill Clinton has shown total disrespect for women through his gross propensity to use them as objects for personal pleasure (Monica, Paula, Susan, Jennifer, Juanita, etc., etc., etc.).

Hawaii is Obama's home state; it is not a foreign country, although some of you act as if it is. The home Obama owns is in Chicago. If he went there all the time, it would create a lot of inconvenience and upheaval for the entire neighborhood. If he did that, people would be griping about how inconsiderate he was. Just like when Carter tried to make the office less "imperial" and carry his own belongings, people gripped that it didn't look "presidential." Some presidents don't own any real estate while in office; others own several places. Are we really going to nit pick to the extreme of having a national debate about where they are allowed to spend their vacation, which cannot be a true vacation, anyway? Are we going to have a national debate about which states presidents can visit and which they can't? The whole idea of it being somehow inappropriate to return to Hawaii, but not to Texas or California or Maine, is just stupid and petty.

Packman,

I've worked on two campaigns against Clinton. While I used to detest the Clintons and their Machiavellian ways, my opinion toward them has softened considerably. I have nothing but high praise for the work of the Clinton Foundation and Hillary's tenure as Secretary of State. Of course, Clinton should have conducted himself with better judgment, but let's not overlook the good he has done. I want McDaniel out of the governor's race so a better Democrat can win. Only Asa took strong stands on education and the environment, could I support him. Education is my number one issue, and food and drug safety/environment is right behind. Then comes crime; I am pretty far to the right on parole issues. If I were ever Governor, every member I would appoint a parole board of Republican women who were related to rape or murder victims. I just do not understand why these people are released and why the laws, the judges, and the parole boards are not stricter.

Packman,

Clinton was not a newlywed on his second wife when he was cheating, and his affairs were not that public when he was running for governor and president. If Clinton had been eligible for a third term, I would have been against him because he was not a good role model. While a friend of mine whose opinion I respect thinks that McDaniel has been a good Attorney General, I think he would neither make a good role model for our youth nor a fit representative for our state at this time. For all his skeletons, Clinton is doing the Lord's work now--trying to relieve suffering and help people in need. I think in many ways he is a better person than he used to be. I suspect that the reason you like McDaniel is that you know that Asa could beat him. The Republicans are going to try to promote McDaniel until he gets the nomination, and then we will never hear the end of how unfit he is. I would respect McDaniel more if he had taken his name out of the ring when he became vulnerable. The fact that he is still in proves that he cares more about himself than the Democratic cause.

According to Media Matters, George W. Bush cost over $20 million in flights to Crawford. That does not include the cost of Transportation and accommodation for staff. It does not include the many day trips when he flew out of Texas to try to counter the criticism for the number of vacation days he was taking.
It does not count the many times he tried to disguise the trips to the ranch as "working vacations" to counter criticism. Such as August 2001 when he flew to Crawford, according to the AP, where "using the ranch as a base, he will promote White House initiatives in Rocky Mountain National Park, Denver, Albuquerque, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and San Antonio."
The figure also does not include the times he took AF1 from Camp David to Crawford, such as on New Year's Eve 2001.
FactCheck(dot)org debunks a lot of the drivel circulating about Obama's vacations and makes the statement that "there exists a continuing pattern of false and misleading claims about the travels of the President and First Lady" and that " Obama uses AF1 far less the George W. Bush."
It costs less to fly to HIS HOME STATE of Hawaii a few times than it cost Bush to constantly be flying to HIS home state (or one of them) of Texas.
Give it a rest, lazybar, you are only kvetching because it is Obama. It has already been documented that the Republican icons Bush and Reagan took far more vacations. Does Lazybar stand for too lazy to research?
