Perplexed by missing men, Hempstead County authorities say

By The Associated Press

This article was published January 11, 2013 at 8:32 a.m.

— Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton says the disappearance of two men last year remains a mystery.

The sheriff said 58-year-old Joseph Cowart of Hope was last seen May 15. Casey Clark of Fulton has not been seen since March 27.

Singleton says the men didn’t know each other and it’s not known whether their disappearances are related.

The sheriff told the Texarkana Gazette that there’s been no activity on either man’s bank account or phone records.

Singleton calls the disappearances “an old-fashioned mystery.”

Cowart was reported missing by an uncle. Authorities say his house was locked and his pickup was parked under the carport.

Clark’s car was found at a Fulton liquor store, and authorities say he left his wallet at a friend’s apartment.
