Plucking instruction

The University of Central Arkansas’ Community School of Music starts two beginner guitar classes next week at UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway:

UCA guitar professor Smokey Emerson will teach the 12-week Adult Guitar Class for Beginners (age 16 and up), 6-6:50 p.m. Tuesdays, Room 125, Snow Fine Arts Center. Maximum enrollment is 10; tuition is $150, with a $7 materials fee payable to theinstructor at the first class.

Nate Mathew’s Beginner Guitar Class for students ages 9 to 15 meets 6-6:45 p.m. Thursdays, same room. Maximum enrollment is eight; tuition is $140. The instructor recommends students bring acoustic guitars.

Met’s Maria

The Met: Live in HD series will bring the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Gaetano Donizetti’s Maria Stuardato big screens - the Breckenridge Village 12 in Little Rock, the Conway Towne Center and the Tinseltown 14 in Benton - at 11:55 a.m. Saturday. Flag-inspired art

Gallery 26, 2601 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, will open an exhibition of the “Red, White and Blue” series of flag-inspired paintings, sculptures, prints and metal works by Little Rock artist and Navy veteran JeffSmoot, with an opening reception at 7 p.m. Saturday. The exhibition will be up through March 9. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Admission is free. Call (501) 664-8996.
