Obama’s campaign looks to legislative fights

— President Barack Obama’s campaign racked up 332 electoral votes and helped the president win a second term. Now it hopes to score legislative victories and build the president’s legacy.

Throngs of campaign volunteers and staff members gathered Sunday at a Washington hotel on the eve of Obama’s inauguration. They assembled for a reunion as well as a planning session for the next four years.

Campaign officials are discussing plans to form a new nonprofit called Organizing for Action as an outgrowth of the campaign. The aim is to support Obama’s legislative agenda and build support for proposals to curb gun violence, reform immigration laws and tackle climate change.

The conference took place as Obama took the oath of office in a private ceremony at the White House.
