NLR high school makes parody video to promote reading

LITTLE ROCK — A parody music video created by students at North Little Rock High School to promote literacy has received thousands of views after only a week online.
Shara Brazear, a spokesman for the North Little Rock School District, said students put together the "I Like Big Books" music video after the high school received a major federal grant to buy Nook electronic readers for juniors and sophomores.
Brazear said the school created the video — which features literacy-themed lines and scenes in the style of the popular Sir Mix-A-Lot song "I Like Big Butts" — as a way to "help kickoff the Nook Project."
The video, which had about 11,000 views on YouTube as of 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, opens with a scene of cheerleaders looking in adoration at a group of students wearing books around their necks on fancy gold chains.
"I bet they read all the time," one cheerleader says. "No wonder they get all the girls."
