JERRELL LEE HALL, of Jacksonville, born July 23, 1934, to Oscar LeeHall and Maggie Susan Barentine Hall, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. A Korean Conflict Army veteran, He was employed for over 30 years by RoachPaper Company. He loved gardening, camping and being camp guard at deer camp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Maggie Hall; his wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann Boyd Hall; one sister, Violet Martin; two brothers, Ivy Hall, A.M. Hall. Jerrell is survived by one son, Stephen Hall of Jacksonville, Ark.; one sister, JoAnn Crook of Jacksonville, Ark.; one grandson, Daniel Hall of Sherwood, Ark.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Arkansas Funeral Care, 2620 W. Main St., Jacksonville, Ark. OTHELLA M. KEITH, age 85, of Maumelle, formerly of Bono, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013. She was born June 16, 1927, to Jimmie and Gladys Browning. Othella was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Maumelle. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was caring offamily and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Dean Keith; and siblings, Lloyd Browning, Otis Browning and Marzee Browning. Survivors include a daughter, Juliana Ellis (Bob); a grandson, John Keith Ellis (Karyn); a great granddaughter, Chloe Ellis; siblings, Geraldine Jones, Roy Browning (Janice), Leonard Browning (Jean), Ralph Browning (Dorothy), Audra Davis and Marie Holland; and 19 nieces and nephews.

PETER E. KING, 66, of North Little Rock, passed away peacefully onMonday morning, Jan. 21, 2013, with his loving wife by his side. A retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, he enjoyed a career flying WC-130s with the Hurricane Hunters in Puerto Rico, C-130 gunships in Thailand and C-130s out of Little Rock AFB. He also flew c-23A Sherpas out of Zweibruecken AB, Germany, and a final tour of duty in England. After retiring, he continued flying with Continental Express, then 747s with AIA and finally Citation Xs with NetJets.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; his daughter, Jennifer; son-in-law, Mikel; and grandson, Benjamin Peter from South Carolina; his son, Peter E. “Chip” King, Jr. of Oregon; three brothers and their wives; seven nephews and nieces, and four great-nephews and nieces; his two beloved dogs and a host of wonderful friends.

He will be put to rest in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. CHARLEY SUE HOLEMAN LEISTER, 77, of Little Rock, passed awayJan. 25, 2013. VERNON EUGENE “GENE” OWENS slipped quietly away to meet hisLord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at home. Gene was born Dec.12, 1934, at the Bay Village Community in Poinsett County, Ark., to Walter and Lottie Sheets Owens. He graduated from Vanndale High School in 1952.

Gene retired from the USAF in 1975 as a technical sergeant. He met the love of his life, Gayle Mayhugh, in Waco, Texas, and they were married March 27, 1959. They were stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida, where Gene served in a drone squadron; Edwards AFB, Calif., where he worked on the X15 project; Keesler AFB, Miss.; Andrews AFB, Md., where he had the honor of marching in President Lyndon Johnson’s inaugural parade; Vietnam, assigned to the US Army as an advisor; and finally Little Rock AFB, where he was an electronics instructor. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked at Arkansas College of Technology as an electronics instructor and dean of education. He later served as capitol building operations manager for the secretary of state.

Gene served 10 years on the Pulaski County Quorum Court, from 1983 to 1992. He ran for the state Senate in 1992 and was defeated in the Democratic primary. Gene served as vice president of the Pulaski County Democratic Committee and was a member of the State Committee of the Democratic Party of Arkansas.

Gene loved his family and was happiest when surrounded by them. He loved to take them all on family vacations.

Gene was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Jacinto Lodge #216. He twice served as worthy patron of Jacksonville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 520. He also served as the rainbow dad for the Jacksonville Rainbow Assembly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lottie Owens; his daughter Robin Janine Prine Sternweis Walker; his sister, Helen Virginia Catlett; and brother JB Owens. He is survived by his wife, Gayle, of 53 years and 10 months; his daughter Wendell “Wendy” Ann Burkart( Kevin) of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Landon Owens of Trumann, Ark.; two granddaughters, Tiffany Reel (Brian) of Jacksonville, Ark., and Tori Morris (Timmy) of Weiner Ark.; one grandson, William Andrew Prine (Karen) of Sherwood, Ark.; seven great-grandchildren, Avery Reel, Gabriel Reel, Madison Reel, Hunter Prine, Karrey Morris, Taylor Lee- Ann Morris and Dax Morris; and several nieces and nephews.

MONA HALL PEDIGO, 70, of Little Rock, passed away January 24, 2013.She was born in Little Rock August 29, 1942. A member of Maumelle Assembly of God Church, she was retired from Prudential Life Insurance Company.

Preceded in death by her husband, Billy“Bones” Pedigo; daughter, Marci Carla Pedigo, and her father, Morris “Preach” Hall, she is survived by her daughter, Marti Renee Pedigo, her mother, Jesse A. Hall; brothers Morris Allen Hall Jr., Harrison M. Hall (Bernice), Robert M. Hall (Barbara), and Melvin S. Hall; sister, Martha Mills (Mack), and granddaughters, Elise Nicole Stuart and Melissa Elizabeth Stuart; special friends, Janet and Bill Cloud; and a host of nieces and nephews.

RUSSELL DISSTON RAWN, age 92, passed from this life to the next onJanuary 24, 2013 in Little Rock, Ark. Born on Nov. 20, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Joseph and Snefrid Gudbrandsen Raaen.

Russ is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Ann PetersonRawn. He worked as a CPA and CFO of Transportation Properties, Inc. and International Ventures, Inc. He volunteered his time and talents with organizations for which he cared: The Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas as Treasurer, Easter Seals of Arkansas as a member of the Board of Trustees, founder of Lion World Services for the Blind, National Association of Accountants, and for many years he was involved with the Arkansas Society of CPAs. Russ and Betty Ann were founding members of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock. Russ served in the Army Air Corps as a Navigator Trainer during WWII and the Korean Conflict.

He is also survived by four sons and their wives, Doug and Lynda Daily Rawn of Little Rock, and Robert and Debbie Wools Rawn of Maumelle, Greg and Barbara Hinson Rawn of DeValls Bluff, and the Rev. Jeff and Cinde Matkin Rawn of Plano, Texas. Russ and Betty Anne boast eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Russ was a member of Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church in Little Rock. It was recently said that Russ lived a good, long life and served the Lord quietly. He never talked a lot about his faith, choosing rather to demonstrate it with his life, which he did.

BEE BRANCH - Elmer Ray Bunker, 65, of Bee Branch, formerly of Higginson passed away at home January 24, 2013. He was born February 21, 1947 in Brasfield, Arkansas to the late Luther and Jessie Mashburn Bunker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James “J.L.” Luther Bunker; three sisters, Margie Gertrude Bunker, Margaret Janette Bunker, Sara Jane Bunker; niece, Mary Frances Cherry; two nephews, Joe Harold Cherry and Timothy Hughes. BENTON - Dr. Frank Mills Crabb, age 79, of Benton, died Friday, January 25, 2013. He was born in Wynne, Arkansas on March 26, 1933 Frank was the 7th child of 8 children bornto the late Aaron Floyd Wills and Winifred Floy Chadwick Wills.

After the untimely early death of both parents, the five youngest children (two sisters and three brothers) came to Little Rock to live in the Arkansas Methodist Children’s Home. Jerry was adopted by Harlow and Glena Kraus of Clarksville, Jack was adopted by Rev. Fred and Mary Harrison of Texarkana and Frank by Eldon and Ethel Crabb of Benton. Two older brothers and one older sister continued their education and careers in the military. The eight children managed to maintain close contact with each other over the years with frequent visits and planned family reunions that have continued to this date through the 3rd generation.

When Frank came to Benton in 1945, he found the all American dream of a young boy, a friendly and loving community. He was never idle, he could be seen every day riding his bicycle across town delivering telegrams or the local paper with his faithful dog, Sport, following close behind.

Throughout high school, Frank was a straight A student and an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track. He earned a football scholarship to attend Southern State College, now called Southern Arkansas University. Frank maintained a 3.6 GPA with a degree in Chemistry, graduated with honors, voted most intelligent, class favorite, received the board of trustees “Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Graduate” award and was listed on the Arkansas Intercollegiate Football Team.

During the summer of 1955, before fall semester at Washington University School of Dentistry, Frank worked as a recreation director at Tyndall Park. A great summer of activities on the ball fields and the swimming pool.

After 4 years of dental school, Frank served his obligated tour of duty with the U.S. Army and was stationed in El Paso, Texas. After this tour, he maintained active through the Arkansas National Guard.

From 1961 to 1966, Frank shared a dental office in Wynne with a former Washington University classmate. Later, he came to Benton and has practiced Dentistry for over 45 years. His patients used to call him the “singing dentist”.

Frank enjoyed people and lived life to the fullest. When he was not in the office, he was on the golf course at Trace Creek Country Club. During the thriving days of Trace Creek, he served as President and was Chairman of many 4 Ball Tournaments which he invited golfers around Central Arkansas.

Frank served in the Army National Guard 204th Medical Detachment, another area of his interest in people and serving others. His unit was deployed during Operation Desert Storm in 1990-1991 He later retired as LT. Colonel.

After 44 years as a practicing dentist, Frank closed the doors to his clinic and enjoyed many days of retirement with his family, working in his yard, catching up on grandchildren’s activities and visiting relatives. He was a member of the Benton First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Azy Tubb Crabb; son, J. Frank Crabb andwife Denise, grandson, Matt Larkan and granddaughter, Rachel and husband Paul Dormas; daughter, Cristal and husband Jack McQuary, grandsons, Ross and Patrick McQuary; son, Cliff Crabb, grandsons, Daniel and David Crabb and his only living sister, Mary Ann Wills Bemberg.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 27 at Ashby Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 28 at Pine Crest Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be 4 p.m. Monday, January 28 at the Benton First United Methodist Church.

BENTON - Kenneth Holdman born January 22, 1938, of Benton,went to be with our dearly beloved father in Heaven on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 6:15 a.m. having reached his 75th Birthday.

He is survived by his lovely wife Carla Starkey Holdmanand their three children. Son Eddie Holdman, his wife Cheryl and their children: Hollye and Collin, Daughter Cindy Caldwell, and her husband Aaron and their four children: Josh Reece, his wife Susie and their children: Kenzie and Daevyn, Jentri Jones, her husband Stephen and their children: Ensley and Kolby, Tyler and Tanner Caldwell, and son Denny Holdman, his wife Cindy and their children: Nathan, Micah, and Destiny.

Both Ken and his wife are members of Fellowship Bible Church in Benton. Ken was an avid golfer and a devoted father, husband and grandfather and his spirit will be celebrated in Heaven as well as on Earth. He finished out his final round of golf having set the standard for all those who follow in his footsteps.

A celebration of life was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Fellowship Bible Church in Benton, Ark.

CAMDEN - Marie Benton, 84, longtime resident of Camden, Ark. went home to glory on Thursday, January 24, 2013. She was born on August 13, 1928. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Gladys Bussell Anderson; and husband, Lincoln Benton. She was a long time owner, operator of Marie’s Beauty Shop on Maul Road. She was loved by many and was always doing things for others. She was an excellent cook and won many awards.

She is survived by three sons, Gary (Pam) Benton, Ric (Dana) Benton and Patrick Benton. She is also survived by aunts, Hester, Floy, Jessie Cline and Lilly Mae who were more like sisters to her.

ENGLAND - Minnie Mosley Quattlebaum, 93, of England, Arkansas went to be with the Lord January 24th, 2013. She was born in San Saba, Texas on April 25th, 1919 to Jim and Katie Layfield. Minnie worked for Westinghouse for 20 years. She wasa member of Landmark Baptist Church in England, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fiftytwo years: James “Tab” Quattlebaum; six brothers and six sisters. She is survived by three daughters: Junith Dutton of Clinton, Arkansas; Doris Webb and her husband Harold of Haskell, Arkansas and Bonnie Phillips of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; one brother: Earl Layfield of Kingsland, Texas; 10 grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

LEWISVILLE - Lavelle Clarence “Sonny” Nutt, age 81, of Lewisville, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, following a brief illness. Mr. Nutt was born November 2, 1931, in Eudora, Arkansas, to L.C. and Alice McDuffie Nutt. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University and was a Korean conflict Veteran stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. Mr. Nutt worked for American Airlines before moving to Lewisville and becoming owner/ operator of Lester’s Grocery Store. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lewisville.

Mr. Nutt was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth L. Nutt; and sisters, Joyce Manes and Mary Bootten. MAYFLOWER - Joye Lynne Langley Ramsey made her way onthe road to the golden gates on January 24, 2013. Waiting just on the other side are her Parents, Leonard and Bessie Delong Langley. Also waiting to meet Joye are her siblings, Dorothy Rogers,Steve Langley, and Jane Collins.

Joye was born November 24, 1948 in Arkansas City, Arkansas. She was sixty-four years and two months old. After a two year battle with ALS, She met the angels.

Joye worked as cosmetologist for over forty-one years, she was one of the best. She was always very conscientious with her clients and her job. They fast became her friends and family. Her co-workers will tell you the same as they also became her friends. She had a great capacity to love, though most knew not to get on her bad side.

She leaves behind twin daughters, Allison and husband Tommy Sutton, and Becky Ramsey. The light of her world, her grandchildren, Josh, Lexy, Daniel, and P.J. Sutton of Mayflower. She also leaves behind her sister, Ellen and husband Danny Patrom of El Paso, Ark.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and many friends.

A special thank you to Carrie Cobb with Arkansas Hospice, for her help and support over the last few weeks. Extra thanks to Amie Reed for your love and tender care of your Aunt Joye. Thanks to all of you for the prayers, cards, letters, and puzzles sent over the past two years. She watched for the mail daily.

SHERIDAN - Lavoie ChristeneBuie Shoptaw of Sheridan was born December 13, 1921, in Prattsville, Arkansas, to Monroe and Pearl Stuckey Buie. She went home to be with the Lord January 24, 2013, after a brief stay at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton. She was 91.

Mrs. Shoptaw has been a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Prattsville since 1935. She married Carthel Melvin Shoptaw June 13, 1936. Carthel preceded her in death on January 23, 2001. Mr. and Mrs. Shoptaw were the original proprietors of Lavoie’s Drive-In in Prattsville, currently “The Whippet.”

Mrs. Shoptaw loved her church, family, friends and cats. She had many interests including cooking, quilting and flower-gardening.

Mrs. Shoptaw was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Thurman Shoptaw; grandsons, Barret Shoptaw and Scott Shoptaw; great-grandson, Tyler Watson; great granddaughter, Alexandra Austin; son-in-law, David Witherow; sisters, Eunice Earnest, Addie Mae Earnest and Odessa Robbins; brothers, Curtis, Cletis, Billy Joe and Clayton Buie. SHIRLEY - Oceolla (Ocey) James Jones, 75, of Shirley, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Conway Regional Medical Center in Conway. Born in Odessa, Texas, on November 21, 1937, he was the son of the late Aaron (Buck)Jones and Myrtle (Jeters) Jones.

After living in Tipton, California, Mr. Jones returned to Shirley, Arkansas, to be with his daughters. He was a retired ranch hand. He loved westerns and being with his family. Mr. Jones was a member of the Eglantine Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and by two brothers, Paul and Benny Jones, both of California. Mr. Jones is survived by three daughters: Debbie Cosio (Manuel) of Visalia, California; and Darla Privitt (Tim) and Diana Baker (Randy) of Shirley; the love of his life and mother of his children, Betty Jones of Shirley; one sister, Shirley Cummins of Shirley; his nephew, Bill Cummins of California; three grandsons: Brant Boling and Evan Boling, both of California, and Jed Privitt of Shirley; two step-grandchildren: Brandon Baker and Austin Baker, both of Clinton; and three great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Luke and Hope. Mr. Jones is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late George Stewart and Adaline Ann Patrick Daunis. He attended University of Arkansas and University of Arkansas at Little Rock andwas a member of Signu Nu. He was a Marine Corps veteran.

Charley worked for the Oak Ridge Boys for many years. He was a member of Elks Lodge #652 of Eureka, Calif., for the past four-andone-half years. He enjoyed all types of music and loved to dance and socialize with friends.

SUGAR LAND, Texas - Harold Gene Allison, 83, of Sugar Land, Texas, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 23 with his wife and friends by his side. He was a beloved Christian husband, father, grandpa (Pops and Papa), uncle, and friend to many. He was born July 8, 1929 in England, Arkansas to Joe Lafayette Allison and Rosie Etta Thompson Allison and grew up in Scott, Arkansas working the cotton fields with his father and brothers. He was a longtime resident of Kansas City, Kansas until moving to Sugar Land, Texas after retirement.He was a Corporal in the United States Army serving in Korea and Japan during the Korean War, a former California State Trooper, a dedicated employee at Western Electric (SW Bell, AT&T), a deacon at Argentine Church of Christ in Kansas City, Kansas, and a member of First Colony Church of Christ in Sugar Land, Texas.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and four brothers. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Joyce Klausen Allison; their children, Steve Allison (Anne) of Abilene, Joy Walker of Sugar Land, Twyla Allison of Arlington, and Dwight Allison of Keller; seven beloved grandchildren, Luke Walker (Aislynn), Andrew Walker (Amanda), Allison Walker Boyle (Sam), Melody Allison Trowell (Randy), Noel Allison Borchardt (Jordan), Ashley Allison, and Madeleine Allison; seven absolutely adored great-grandchildren Liliana and twin Lilah (father Luke), Autumn and sister Olivia (father Andrew), Noah and twin siblings Charlotte and Bennett (mother Melody); grand-dogs, grand-cats and Buddy; an aunt; sister-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many dear friends especially JV Weaver and Leonida Timbreza who were right by his side through his fight with cancer.
