Human-trafficking arrest nets Texan

A Texas man was arrested Thursday in Little Rock after police said he forced a woman to engage in prostitution.

Jonathan Humphries, 23, of Tatum, Texas, was arrested and charged with trafficking of persons, a Class A felony. He was being held Saturday evening at the Pulaski County jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Shortly before 6:25 p.m. Thursday, Humphries took Brandy Scruggs, 20, of Lake Charles, La., to “an escort operation where she engaged in prostitution,” according to an arrest report.

The report does not elaborate on what happened next, but it states that officers took Scruggs in for questioning. She told investigators that Humphries forced her “by threat of violence” to engage in prostitution and to give him all of her earnings, according to the report.

Police then arrested Scruggs, who was charged with prostitution, possession of an instrument of crime and operating a business without a license. She was taken to the Pulaski County jail but was not there Saturday evening.

Officers arrested Humphries in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn and Suites at 4301 E. Roosevelt Road, the arrest report states.
