UAMS to get $2 million for clinic from Delta Dental foundation

The Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation said Tuesday that it will contribute a total of $2 million toward an oral health clinic opening at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

The clinic is part of the UAMS Center for Dental Education, which is “working toward accreditation for postgraduate residency programs in advanced general dentistry and oral surgery,” according to a news relase.

Five of the clinic’s planned 18 treatment rooms are open. When the expansion is complete — scheduled for 2014 — UAMS will name the clinic the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation Oral Health Clinic, in recognition of the foundation’s total $2 million in backing, which includes a $440,000 grant announced last year.

“The strong support by the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation has been critical to our ability to open this clinic and plan for the kind of facility we need to provide comprehensive care for our patients and host the dental residency program, which will have a wide-reaching effect on improving dental care in Arkansas,” UAMS Chancellor Dan Rahn said in a statement.

The Oral Health Clinic’s hours of operation will be from noon-5 p.m. Mondays; from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; and from 7 a.m. to noon Fridays. Appointments are available by calling (501) 686-5733.
