Jonesboro police: Toddler drowns in swimming pool

By The Associated Press

This article was published January 31, 2013 at 9:31 a.m.

— Authorities say an 18-month-old girl has died after falling into her family’s swimming pool.

Jonesboro police say the drowning happened Tuesday night.

Authorities say the mother was preparing dinner when she realized her daughter, Kinley Crews, was missing. The girl was found floating in the family’s swimming pool.

The Jonesboro Sun reported that a downstairs door used to let family dogs in and out of the home may have been unsecured, allowed the girl to get to the backyard.

Police say they don’t suspect foul play and that the case is being treated as an accidental drowning.

It is no accident when you have a pool and it is supposed to have a locked gate around it to keep these kind of "accidents" from happening. If you have a pool, you need to be super vigilent re safety. Sorry for the kid who lost their life throough their parents neglect.

PISS ON BEING SENSITIVE.!! A CHILD has lost their LIFE to something that is 100% preventable! I feel bad for the parent for sure BUT I'm not going to pat them on the back and tell them it's ok and all will be fine because it's NOT. This is the kind of crap tha's turned my gut for YEARS in the emergency departments. I just hope someone reading this story will stop and think about how to their own children safe.

I agree Nonsheeple. Howgfan, people need to have responsibility nowadays. In todays world, there is no responsibility. It is ALWAYS somebody elses fault.

Now watch them sue the 'downstairs door manufacturer'. "It is not my fault". Just like our government allowing people to sue the manufacturers of guns when someone uses it in a crime. Victims Attorney says "It is not the criminals fault, If he didn't have access to guns, this would not happen. The gun manufacturers need to pay"

Amen to that edo. It's a good thing Democrat and Nonsheep have never done so much as exceed the posted speed limit, which we all know can lead to fatalities. Keep up the good work guys! Your everyday lives serve as a monument to the perfection that we all strive to achieve!

If I must be called JUDGE for pointing out that this child DIED from parental negligence then fine. Children that age aren't out opening doors or yard gates by themselves. I've seen kids drown in bath tubs from parents assuming their children will be fine at too young. Open water kills a lot more children annually then all these "assault rifles" that are in the news for sure...

More kids under age 10 die due to negligence in pools and ponds each year than from guns it's not close....fill them all in....next we need to ban, toys too....to many choking deaths...pets kill too..euthanize them all....

"Children that age aren't opening doors or gates by themselves". Either your children were a little slow or mine were extremely gifted. Because toddlers are into everything they can find to get into.

I agree with no sheep and bend over - Kids are gonna die, no matter what. We don't need any seat-belt or car seat laws, no laws about lead paint or choking hazards, no gun laws or attractive nuisance laws. We don't need any laws that MIGHT reduce deaths because we all know that deaths happen anyway.

Vickie 55 is correct. Toddlers are constantly into everything; it is the scariest age. These types of heartbreaking stories is why I would not buy a house with a pool or next door to a pool. My heart goes out to the family.

Before you post judgement on anyone you need to have the proven facts!!! This mother is a wonderful mother who takes care of her kids!! The gate was locked and secured. The door going outside was locked with deadbolt, door lock, and chain lock!!! Do you cook dinner and have your kids sitting at table while your cooking? No I'm sure you don't!! She was doing the same thing every other mother does. SHe wasn't negligent in cooking dinner!! You have no idea what she is going through!!! I'm not going to go into detail as to how this happened but negligence wasn't the reason!!!! So don't be so quick to judge someone!!! Let this family grieve over this tragic loss and instead of judging her pray for her!! She doesn't expect a pat on the back... And every accident could be preventable in some form or another..... But to put blame on her is sad!!! She is going through the pain that each of us parents pray that we will never have to go through... There will also be what if's and why me's but that's something only one person can answer and we have to just trust in that he has his reasons for everything!! I am praying for this family!!!

I could have been that mother. Only luck saved my 2-year-old son from a similar fate. Mothers try mightily to keep a safe home. But, in mere seconds, little ones can find vulnerabilities that a parent never conceived of. God bless this family.

Accidents are just that...accidents...bad things happen so is life...it's the left wing that makes everything so tragic and looks to solve the worlds problems with legislation that they have no other interests in other than political advancement and personal gain of fame and money...kids as with adults die in tragic ways...but that is not going to stop no matter what type of legislation these politically motivated idiots conjure up in their pea ass brains....guns do not kill people, pools do not kill people..mistakes..accidents and dumb..sick individuals are responsible not the laws..unless this family was truely negilgent ...it's an accident..no matter how tragic that is what it is...an accident!
