LITTLE ROCK CHRISTIAN

RANDI FERGUSON

When it came to running, Randi Ferguson always seemed to be among the leaders.

Competing for Little Rock Christian, Ferguson won the Class 5A state cross country meet her freshman and sophomore years and placed second during her junior and senior seasons. For the Warriors track team, she was the state champion in the 3200 run her sophomore and junior seasons and the state runner cup in the 3200 her senior year.

She qualified for the Meet of Champs all four years of her high school career.

An ankle injury caused her to struggle some in her final two years of high school, but she still managed to run among the state’s elite.

“Cross country was more fun for me because I always seemed to do better with the longer distances,” Ferguson said. “I really enjoyed the all-star meets we had for cross country. They were a lot of fun to run.”

Ferguson originally signed to run with the University of Oklahoma cross country team, but has since decided to stay closer to home.

Ferguson was also a leader in the classroom. She earned the school’s highest honors in world geography and the second highest honors in biology. She plans to major in pre-medicine at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She says she eventually wants to become a gynecologist.

“My mother was a nurse and that caused me to become interested in medicine,” Ferguson said. “My favorite classes were biology and calculus. I really liked math because I found it challenging and I like challenges.”
