Pretrial hearing for Gillean delayed again

CONWAY — A pretrial hearing scheduled Monday for former University of Central Arkansas chief of staff Jack Gillean was delayed a second time when defense attorneys filed a motion seeking a continuance.

Prosecutors said they received the motion Monday morning seeking a change of date because Gillean's attorneys had commitments in other courts.

Gillean faces charges of three felony counts of commercial burglary, one felony count of fraudulent insurance acts and one misdemeanor count of issuing a financial statement. He is set to be tried on the burglary charges first.

Gillean resigned last year. His charges stem from accusations he provided a student a key knowing the student would use it to enter professors' offices and steal tests.

The hearing had originally been scheduled last week before being moved to Monday. It was rescheduled later Monday for 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Gillean has pleaded innocent on all counts.
