A woman and a 9-year-old girl died Wednesday when the vehicle they were in ran into the back of a truck trailer in Calhoun County.
Lacy E. Welch, 27, was driving a 2007 Toyota south on Arkansas 79 when it hit the back of the trailer of a southbound Mack truck, Arkansas State Police said. It happened about 9:30 a.m. near Arkansas 205.
Welch and the 9-year-old passenger, Alexia F. Welch, both of Bearden, died from unspecified injuries.
The truck driver was not injured.
Conditions at the time were said to be dry and clear.
The two fatalities marked the 212th and 213th people to die in traffic accidents in Arkansas so far this year. A separate wreck Wednesday on Arkansas 79 in neighboring Ouachita County killed a Camden man.
