Ferrell Chooses University of the Ozarks

Josh Ferrell enjoyed a record-setting basketball career at West Fork, but he’s now excited to move on to college at the University of the Ozarks.

The 5-foot-11 combo guard chose the NCAA Division III school over offers from Arkansas Tech and John Brown and signed his national letter of intent at a ceremony at the Tiger Dome on Tuesday afternoon.

Ferrell worked out at both University of the Ozarks and Arkansas Tech in the last few weeks and said he just felt at home in Clarksville.

“It just felt good, plus the chance to play sooner,” Ferrell said.

Ferrell enjoyed a huge senior season for the Tigers, averaging 22 points and seven assists per game, enjoyed a 7-to-1 assist to turnover ratio and made 91 3-pointers. He also set a state record with 181 steals this season and 378 for his career. He also set state records for 3-pointers in a half (9) and in a quarter (6).

He was a three-time all-conference selection and earned All-State and all-state tournament honors this season. Ferrell was also chosen to play in the Arkansas High School Coaches’ Association All-Star game to be held in Conway in June.

West Fork coach David Ferrell, also Josh’s father, said he will definitely be tough to replace. But that’s also the case for this year’s senior class, which racked up a school record 87 victories in their career.

“It’s gonna be tough to lose him as a dad being around him all the time, but also as a player,” David Ferrell said. “He basically holds every single school record except rebounds.”
