Long-time employee Lynn Hamilton has been promoted to president and general manager of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, WEHCO President Jeff Jeffus announced in a Wednesday afternoon meeting at the publication’s Little Rock office.

Hamilton, who previously served as vice president of operations for the Democrat-Gazette, has been with the newspaper for 39 years and has served in his vice presidential role since 1982. He will assume the position vacated by Nat Lea, who was promoted to president of WEHCO Media Inc. last week.

Hamilton, who was also named this year as the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s 2013 College of Business Distinguished Alumnus, was introduced in his new capacity to employees by Jeffus in the publication’s main newsroom.

“This [promotion] would be an honor at any newspaper," Hamilton said in his remarks. "But we truly have a great modern-day newspaper."

Hamilton graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1970 and received his master's degree in business administration from UALR in 1979.

Two other promotions announced Wednesday included that of Circulation Director Larry Graham, who was tapped the vice president of circulation, and Advertising Director Scott Stine, who advanced to the role vice president of advertising and marketing.
