Pulaski County jail inmate dies following suicide attempt

A Pulaski County jail inmate died Friday after he attempted to take his own life Thursday night.

Donald Rackley, 46, was found by guards attempting to hang himself with a bedsheet in his cell around 7 p.m., Pulaski County sheriff’s office Lt. Carl Minden said. He was then transported to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for treatment.

Later Friday afternoon, hospital officials notified the sheriff's office that Rackley, who had a long history of offenses including multiple charges of burglary, theft of property and drug possession, had died.

An investigation was launched into Rackley’s death by the sheriff's office criminal investigations division, Minden said. Foul play is not suspected in Rackley's death, and an internal review into the situation is pending.
